50lb Fish Die At Church Pool

Fish found dead at Essex Lake.

Nash Tackle boss Kevin Nash told of his distress at the death of two fifty pound fish from his Essex water big fish water, Church Pool. The report comes just days after news of an oxygen crash which saw a total of six fish die, following an algae bloom. He told Angling News Week: “Contrary to popular belief, it is not actually the algae bloom that kills the fish, but as the micro organisms die they draw the oxygen from the water –which is what causes levels to crash.

“We have lost six fish in total, including two fifty pound fish, but I have taken the decision to close the pools until early 2013, so as to avoid any more damage to stocks. Even though the surviving fish seem ok, the oxygen crash will have weakend their immune system- and with cooling temperatures they won’t now fully recover until the spring. I have to make fish welfare my priority, and would rather take this measure now than regret not doing so in a couple of months time.”
