47lb Fully Scaled Banked

Massive mirror is one of biggest fully scaled specimens in the country.

One of the biggest fully scaled mirror carp in the country has been landed at a weight of 47lb 14oz.

The fish was banked by angler Bojan Tesin after he targeted the massive specimen at Cotton Farm syndicate water, run by carp legend Lee Jackson.

A bailiff on the syndicate for the past eight years, Bojan knows the fish well, having landed it some five years previously at 30lb. His latest mission to catch the specimen again though came about due to the loss of a special photograph.

“When I caught this fish at 30lb a friend of mine took the photo of me with her but then it went missing,” Bojan told Total Carp. “One day I was sitting with Lee (Jackson) talking about it and it just came into my head that I wanted to catch her again so I can have another photo’.”

A notoriously hard carp to get on the bank, the last time the fish was caught was over two years ago when she weighed some 15lb less at 32lb. A weight gain Bojan puts down to problems with spawning.

“I was obviously pleased to catch her but was a bit worried about her condition,” Bojan continued. “She looked heavily spawn bound, but seemed healthy enough and went bank strongly and has been seen since looking fine. At just under 48lb she's also now got to be one of the biggest three fully scaled mirrors in the country.”

Bojan landed his target fish following a short campaign that saw his prep areas using a new boilie he’s been testing and helping to develop for Dartford bait firm Ace Baits – the Wormster.

Fishing a helicopter rig with a 15mm Wormster boilie popped up on a 6inch hooklink with a size 6 long-shank nailer hook, the action started for Bojan at 6am with the capture of a 30lb common. Half an hour later and his alarm sounded again, this time with the fish he was after.

“It was great to see her again,” said Bojan. “She doesn’t get caught very often so it was a privilege to have her and to get my photo.”

Ace Baits’ Wormster boilie, a fishmeal base with worm and oyster extract, will be officially launched at the Sandown Carp Society Winter Show in November.
