The 15 Minute Forty

Solar ace banks lake-best on first visit.
Belgium-based big-carp specialist Gunther Poelmans took just 15 minutes to land the biggest carp in a new target water.

Arriving at the venue at 11pm after a long shift at work, Gunther hadn't even had a chance to put the second rod on the ground after positioning the hook bait when the clutch on his first rod started spinning.

After a hefty battle, which saw Gunther take to his Zodiac boat to land the fish, he slipped the net under the lake's biggest and most sought-after specimen in the shape of this mirror carp. Although it usually weighs in excess of 55lb, recent spawning saw the mirror tip the scales at 44lb.

Given that this big, original resides in a lake with a good head of low-20lb stockies, and that it was Gunther's first session on the water, it's somewhat incredible that the first take saw a would-be campaign completed before it had even got going!

Solar Bait's new Pineapple Secret boilies fished over a bed of matching freebies is what proved to be the big mirror's downfall.
