Solar Tackle team member Wesley Lagaert has landed 8 carp to 41lb 10oz in 2 nights from the Integra syndicate near his Belgian home. Fishing Friday night and Saturday night, and not fishing through the days, Wes landed 4 carp each night/morning, the smallest of which was 22lb and the biggest tipping the scales at 41lb 10oz. Putting the new TunaMino test baits through their paces, Wes presented a straight bottom bait hook bait over a bed of matching freebies to take all 8 carp. To round off the session Wes hooked into something really big, but after battling it for 35 minutes the hook pulled! .

BARGAIN!Okay, so we have seen this product before. However, when we covered the shelter initially, the product was £649. 99, now it can be picked up for an amazing £300 less. The unique High Top has been designed with space in mind, catering for anglers looking for a shelter offering unrivalled headroom.

We’ve seen a lot of brollies, some good and some not so, but it’s a while since we saw one offering a full system for just £100. With the brolly itself, full infill, pegs and groundsheet included in the price, this is a great choice for the occasional angler or those looking for their first brolly. I like an open-fronted shelter, but if you’re new to brollies then you may want the option of the infill, which this gives. The nylon material isn’t some ‘space-age Megatexx’ or suchlike, but it’s waterproof and that’s the primary reason for it being there! The steel design is basic but perfectly functional and, with the target angler in mind, I reckon it’s an absolute belter.

Read any rod manufacturer’s brochures and they’ll describe the perfect carp rods that boast huge casting potential as well as the ability to play fish under the rods tips. Whether or not this is even possible is open to debate. Shimano’s description of the XS1 Intensity touches on that but focuses on the build of the blank and its tip recovery, something that is vital in casting accuracy and distance. It also boasts of a super-slim blank thanks to Shimano’s Cap T technology, whatever that is! In reality, the boasts are pretty accurate.

Tackle Box’s Lee Jackson says: A sticky additive that can be applied to a hook bait or PVA bag to create a continuous plume of attraction, Lava is denser than water, which means it stays around your baited area seeping across the lake bed, attracting attention where it matters most – your hook bait. Within minutes it starts to break down, triggering a rich scent and attractive colour. On zigs it will stream off, creating a cloudy column, giving attraction at many levels. Once the liquid reaches the bottom it will stay there until it is disturbed and then create yet another cloud of attraction.

Dan Murrell’s verdict A real joy to use and in my opinion they look pukka ! As I have written in previous reviews, I prefer using a longer than conventional rod, favouring 12ft 6in, 12ft 9in or 13ft models. Having used 12ft models for a few months I was quick to change when a set of Terry Hearn Distance 12ft 9in 3. 5lb test curve came into the office for a Used & Abused review. Aesthetically, I think it is fair to say that ESP has hit the nail on the head.

We have all used quick-change swivels of some variety and to great effect, being handy to change rigs in no time at all. However, taking it one step further, the team at Korda has developed the same principle with a crook rather than the conventional elongated eye. Now this may not seem like much, and by no means think we are trying to blow it out of proportion. However, this helps you fish hook links straight off the swivel quickly and with much more movement.
