Biggest-ever carp banked from Milton Keynes lake. Weighing in at 39lb 10oz, the monster shown here adds almost two clear pounds to Milton Keynes Angling Association's carp record. For captor Sam Willis, banking it Sunday morning came as just reward for 'sticking out' a miserable week of bitter winds and frosts on wide-open Willen's 150 acres. While so many other carpers were waiting for warmer weather to start their campaigns, he and photographer Jason Partlow fished four unproductive days before the monster put in an appearance.

Prizewinner makes best of conditions by putting reels to good use!
Although the recent cold weather may have put the carp off feeding at a lot of our nation's fisheries, it didn't stop prizewinner, Brian Sansom from getting out and testing the set of carp reels that he won in a recent issue of Total Carp. Brian explained: "It was a little cold for carp fishing at the weekend so I decided to put the two reels that I won as a prize to good use by taking them pike fishing! I caught seven in total between 8lb and 16lb, and certainly gave the reels the workout they needed! Needless to say I was very impressed!". . .

World’s first 'commercial' carp fishing tournament.
The world's first documented commercial carp fishing tournament has taken place in Kentucky, USA, and carried a first-place prize of $10,000!Hosted by the Kentucky Department Of Fish And Wildlife, the two-day contest saw the winning team weigh in over 10,000lb of fish – and at the same time go some way towards saving the native fish population of the area's waterways!Kentucky has been badly affected by the spread of the none-native Asian carp, and particularly the silver carp sub species, that have reaked havoc on waterways across the United States. Over the course of the contest, only non-native species were allowed to be weighed in, meaning the event ridded the local ecosystem of tens of thousands of invaders. The competiton proved a real hit among local anglers, and spectators, with some people travelling over 200 miles just to watch the event taking place!
