Big News At Carp Team England!

Carp Team England’s men’s and ladies’ teams recently hosted an evening at the superb RK Leisure Wraysbury 1 Lodge to celebrate the success of both teams over the past 12 months, thank sponsors for their support and announce coming events and plans going forward for Carp Team England.

It is an exciting time for all of the Carp Team England squads, with more events and some exciting new fixtures to compete in.

Following the success of the Celtic Cup, a Home Nations event involving England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales is planned for 2017, together with friendlies both at home and abroad for the men’s team. England intend to host a Six Nations event in 2017 following on from their victory in France in May, and in the meantime there is, of course, the defence of their World Championship title at Lac du Bourdon this September.

The ladies will head over to Wales to defend their Anglo-Welsh Cup title, which they won in April, and planning is also under way for an international tournament involving England, Wales, Holland, France and Italy.

“It’s a great time for international carp fishing,” said Carp Team England manager Rob Hughes. “I’ve always said that to be successful at the highest level we need to compete on the international stage more, and that’s exactly what we are doing. We’ve had some great success over the past 12 months and are aiming for that to continue. Our team is strong and we are in the preparation process for the World Championships in France this September. The ladies’ team has been an immense success and, as expected, other nations now want to field ladies’ teams in an international event. I’m working with the managers and governing bodies from a number of nations to make this full international event happen and am hopeful we will be the ones to host it.”

The final plans announced by Hughes were to put in place a youth squad to complete the system.

Rob said: “We all know that junior anglers are the future of our sport and that carp fishing is what many youngsters want to do. There is currently no junior system/event in place, but once again, I intend to change that. I’m in discussions with other managers and we hope to be in a position to put together a national squad for the first-ever officially ratified FIPS international event next year.”

England travel out to France at the end of July to prepare for the defence of their world title, and upon their return, Rob will announce his squad for the event.
