The final of the Erics Carp Championship has taken place with the final 12 qualifying pairs competing for the £30,000 cash prize. The formidable field of anglers was a real who's who of match carp angling and it was clear at the draw that the result would not be clear cut. With carp spread out among the bays that make up the 25 acres of Farlows Lake, it was clear that the winning pair would be those who kept disturbance to a minimum and kept the fish feeding in their area for the duration of the 48hr match. When the starting hooter sounded, a barrage of baited rigs made it out to the spots and everyone waited with anticipation for the first bite of the match.

Just five hours into his first trip testing a new Solar Chilli Club bait, Colin Gray's first take on the new bait resulted in this 36lb-plus mirror. Having picked up his test batch from Solar HQ on Monday evening, Colin headed straight to Darenth Big Lake where he presented an 18mm bottom bait over 1kg of matching freebies at 90 yards. With the first take coming just a few hours later and resulting in this mid-thirty, the Solar team member packed up early Tuesday morning to head back to work with a large smile on his face. The Chilli Club bait is still in development, but the results so far are incredible, as you can see from Colin's success.

Over the winter Wildmoor Waters has made some significant changes to the Main Lake. By separating the summer as Summer Bay, and the new heart-shaped lake now benefits from a reprofiled bottom. A number of submerged features were created as part of this exercise, as previously the bottom was quite flat, so there are now more areas to hold fish. Other advantages are that the fish density is now even higher than it was before, and the crafty carp can no longer nip over into Summer Bay, out of the reach of anglers in the lodges.
