Additional Info: This was about 3 months ago but the information regarding the capture will always be with me. same water as i had the 36.4 from a water in the lee valley and it will stayed unnamed out of respected to the people fishing their currently. This common is only one of 5 or 6 that are in this lake so i am very happy to have one as some members go years and years sometimes the whole tickets not catching one. anyways back to the story.
This common was caught in a 48hrs session which was originally an 24hr, i stayed an extra night but had to leave in the morning due to work. i chose to fish in a swim called first bridge, reason behind this was that i had a better angle to a spot i knew was out there around 105 yards out (back side of a bar) as the crays where not to bad i decided to fish a hard lm94 pop up which i let harden up for a week prior to fishing. just to make sure that if crays did get on the spot the pop up would stand a chance of not being broken apart by the crays (later in the year it was all plastic hook baits) same plan as i also have on the lake on rod on one spot and the other two on another, this swim had a really nice slit spot down the left hand margin only 40 yards out 8 wraps. so i put two on that and one out on the spot at range, a lovely gravel mixed with blanket weed (not to thick) just perfectly for a low lying pop up on a ronnie. all rods went out with out a problem, baited light as i have't seen much and didnt want to over do it. nothing through the day and night, woke up first light and saw them out long about 40 to 50 yards left of my long rod, didnt want to scare them off so just sat on my hands waiting to see if they will come over the baited area, i didnt see anything short on the two other rods. it got to about 10am where the showing calmed down and no action had came around the lake. so i reeled in and went for a walk around the lake. had about an hours walk around the lake lookign for them, saw one sitting just under the surface in a bay but as i saw all them fish early morning out long near my spot i stayed put.
it got on till about 4pm where i put my two short rods back out with 5 ore spombs over the top just as a top up because of the crays and to make sure that theres bait there for tonight. after doing this i gave a mate a call to say im doing an extra night as i felt like something would happen. i had a mate come over to my swim as i was putting my last rod out, the sun was beaming straight into my swim and making it difficult to see where my tree line marker was. before casting out my mate shouted something to me, the same place as last 2 fish straight after each other showed on the same spot as this morning, now i didnt see them because of the sun but he was in the other swim just walking around when he saw these fish,so not wanted to make any mistakes that i made in the morning in put a single on them, my mate watch the rig land and shouted 'bang on'. after putting that rig out there to the fish we didnt see anything else for the rest of the night, but i left it there as an off chance that they will come back in the morning. me and my mate talked mad a few beers and he left around 11:30pm and i went to sleep shortly after.
same routine as always wake up just before first light, got the waders on and waited, i didnt see anything that morning so i went back to bed around 6pm. got woken up hour and a half later to a few bleeps looked at the rod tip and the bobbin both were just bouncing, that soon quickly turned into a slow run due to be fishing at range and fairly tight. as soon as i picked up the rods after getting waders on i felt it wanting to go so loosen the clutch off and away it went about 60 yards down the lake, i didnt set the lead to drop this time as the weed coming back towards me wasnt that bad at the time. at this point it was around 150 yards out and flat rodding me. this fish had some amends power to it and it was still going. it probably was a good minute before it stopped and it could turn the fish towards me but after that massive run it just came straight in not doing much. got it under the rod tip and went left to right a few times but nothing difficult and just slipped it under the net. gave my other mate a call that was fishing in a swim called the grassy, he came down and done the pictures and thats when he told me theres only 5 or 6 commons in the lake and this is the biggest he has seen so far. a pb common as well so leaving that rod there after not seeing any fish show after i put it out paid off just 12 hrs later but it worked. it went 31.8 final weight a beautiful lee valley common. nothing better to start the day, packed away and went to work.
