A 2½-acre lake with an abundance of natural foliage. It has varying depths with a shallow end averaging four feet and a deeper end of around 12 feet. The most productive features are the steep-shelved margins, the island, and a prominent gravel bar that runs nearly the entire length of the lake. There are 16 pegs with a maximum of 10 anglers allowed on at a time.

A valiant stand as carpers take on matchmen, tough conditions and bags of bream. On Monday April 23 at a fishery at the centre of England, the age old question of who’s better, carpers or match anglers, was answered. On the day the result was clear, and in conditions, time and at a fishery that didn’t necessarily suit the big fish boys, it wasn’t quite the answer that the carpers had been looking for. A valiant effort is how the fishing of the Wychwood boys can be described though, as 10 top anglers took on a formidable line-up of matchmen from the MAP stable.

Korda and Daiwa-backed carp stars Darrell Peck and Garth Ethelston are to host a not-to-be-missed open day in Hertfordshire this weekend. The guys will be at the Angling Direct tackle store in Waltham Cross for a superb day that will see the two big fish gurus reveal tactics, thinking and tackle that will help you put more fish on the bank. Running from around 10am through until the store closes at 6pm, the angling master class will see detailed rig construction, advice on bait and a question and answer session.

Mixed opinions as concern over future of historic waters grows. As concern over the future of some of the UK’s most loved waters grows, the news that the Angling Trust has made moves to help the situation in our sport’s favor has come as some comfort to anglers up and down the country. Yesterday the Trust revealed that it has been in discussions with the agent tasked with selling a list of famous Cemex Angling waters to act as a ‘middle man’, brokering deals between the sellers and interested angling parties. However, despite what is generally viewed as positive news, not everyone is convinced that this will be enough to save waters, which include Burfield, Frimley and Yateley amongst other historic venues.

Alongside funny man host Keith Lemon the show will also be featuring N-Dubz singer and hardened carper Dappy, who appeared in the pages of Total carp last year. Things are looking good and I’m itching to get back out on the bank any day now. I ventured over to a special lake on a glorious winter’s day that felt more like spring. The sun was beaming onto the surface and birds were singing. I had a quick walk to see if I could pinpoint any carp and, lo and behold, one jumped.
