The famous Black Swan syndicate, near Reading in Berkshre has lost one of it’s A list fish, in the shape of the famous ‘Big Common.’ The massive fish weighed 51lb when it was taken from the lake, leaving everyone - including the bailiff Simon Bartlam shocked and saddened.
He explained: “ The fish was seen just a couple of weeks ago swimming around and feeding, and when it was pulled from the lake it wasn’t like it was full of spawn – so why it passed away is something of a mystery really. It wasn’t even a particularly old fish – we estimated that it had been in the lake a little over 25 years. There are no other problems with any of the other fish in the lake, so it seems it is just a very unfortunate freak incident. It is always a bitter pill to swallow when fish are lost, but in this case I think it is just a very unfortunate accident.”
The Black Swan syndicate contains over 600 carp, with fish over 50lb still present in the lake.
